“I heard a bang like an earthquake. “I was surrounded by lifeless bodies, blood and wounded,” reports Ukrainian Alexander L.* (38) to “La Repubblica”. He spent his holidays in Italy with his father Vasyl L.* (†70). On October 3, they wanted to take the bus back to their campsite from St. Mark’s Square. But they never reached their destination: the bus fell off a bridge, killing 21 people – including Alexander’s father.
“I tried to protect my head with my hands, but the blow was very strong,” the survivor told the Italian newspaper. He suffered serious injuries in the accident as he was hit by the bodies of other passengers and flying luggage during the impact.
Survivor wants answers
After the accident, the Ukrainian was hospitalized in the surgical department of the hospital, without knowing where his father was. «After the accident I lost sight of my father. I knew we were involved in a tragedy, but I hoped he would make it.” It was not until the early hours of October 4 that L. found out that his father had not made it.
At this moment, the grieving Alexander L. wants only one thing: “To understand what happened. I want to know who is responsible for this.” As “La Repubblica” reports, the Ukrainian is currently constantly scrolling through social media – looking for answers. “I lost my father and so many other people lost their loved ones. I think it’s good to have clarity.” (gs)
