A US civil rights agency is suing Tesla for alleged harassment of black workers at its main factory in Fremont, California.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) said in the lawsuit filed Thursday in California federal court that black workers at the Tesla factory were routinely subjected to racial slurs and graffiti, including swastikas and gallows nooses, from 2015 to the present.
Tesla did not investigate complaints of racist behavior. In addition, the electric car manufacturer is said to have fired employees who had reported harassment or otherwise taken action against them.
The EEOC is responsible for enforcing laws against employment discrimination. There was initially no response from Tesla to the allegations in the claim statement published on Thursday.
There are currently several lawsuits against the company alleging racial discrimination and harassment. Tesla has denied wrongdoing in these cases.
