Disappeared for almost five months – now a Pakistani journalist has resurfaced in Libya: “I have worked in many conflict areas, but I have never experienced anything like this before”

More than four months after he disappeared without a trace, a journalist has turned up in Pakistan. Imran Riaz Khan is with his family, police said on the online platform X on Monday.

The national press club in Pakistan confirmed to the German news agency that the man was doing well. It is not known where Khan has been in recent months. It is believed that he was held by the influential secret service.

Journalists in the South Asian country are repeatedly kidnapped when they criticize powerful institutions such as the military. TV presenter Khan disappeared from his hometown of Sialkot in Punjab province in May after sharply criticizing the arrest of former prime minister and opposition leader Imran Khan, to whom he is not related despite having the same name. The politician’s party welcomed the journalist’s return on live television on Monday and spoke of a victory for the truth. (sda/dpa)
