French rapper MHD sentenced to 12 years in prison for murder Ukrainian forces broke through in Verbove, says counter-offensive leader

French rapper MHD has been sentenced to twelve years in prison for murder. The Paris jury ruled that the musician was complicit in the death of a young man about five years ago. Five other co-defendants were also convicted in the case on Saturday evening, several French media unanimously reported on Sunday.

The incident took place on the night of July 5 to 6, 2018 in Paris. A 23-year-old man was deliberately run over by a car and then beaten and attacked with knives by about ten men. The man died from his injuries. A day later the car was found burned out in a parking lot.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the burnt-out Mercedes belonged to the musician. Several witnesses claimed to have seen him at the crime scene. The case is said to revolve around a gang dispute.

MHD, whose real name is Mohamed Sylla, is considered a pioneer of Afro-Trap, a mix of hip-hop and African music. He became famous in France in 2015 thanks to a video published on YouTube. (cst/sda/dpa)
