A man (34) blinded the pilot of a propeller helicopter with his laser pointer on Thursday. The German Bundeswehr was on its way to the North Sea, it was a routine flight. This allowed the man with the light beam to be quickly located. He had to hand in his pointer – it was a device that could not be purchased for free, writes ‘ntv’. The crew of the Bundeswehr machine was unharmed.
Due to the ‘dangerous interference with the safety of air traffic’, the man now faces a prison sentence of at least six months if convicted. Recently there have been repeated cases of pilots being blinded in the Niebüll region of Schleswig-Holstein. As a result, the airspace was better monitored – and the man with the laser pointer was caught. (jwg)
