Suspected serial killer Billy C. was murdered by his own cellmate.

A 50-year-old American man accused of murdering nearly two dozen elderly women has been killed by his cellmate in a remote Texas prison. Billy C.* was found dead in his cell, according to a spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections.

His cellmate was also behind bars for murder. He was identified as the perpetrator. Authorities would not release any further details about his identity. They also provided no information about how C. died.

C. was sentenced to two life sentences for double murder. Authorities believe he was also responsible for other deaths over a two-year period in the Dallas area. C. was eventually arrested when a 91-year-old woman survived an attack and was able to make a statement to the police. She describes how C. had entered her residential group for seniors. There he tried to suffocate her with a pillow and steal her jewelry. The next day, police managed to arrest him and secure his stolen belongings. C. even gave the police officers a tip about another victim. Because: In a jewelry box, officers found documents belonging to an 81-year-old woman who was later found dead.

The victims’ relatives were relieved and shocked by C.’s death. The daughter of one of the victims explained: “My mother died in fear. This man did not die peacefully either. It’s a relief to me that he didn’t get off so easily.” (one)
