The US Department of Justice accuses the company of using illegal means to gain its dominant position in search engines. Google is said to have signed exclusive contracts worth billions with mobile phone manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung or telecommunications companies such as T-Mobile and AT&T, leaving competitors without a chance.
Google, which controls about 90 percent of the Internet search engine market, rejects the allegations. The company states that the search engine’s success is due to the fact that it is better than the competition. The trial in federal court, which will last ten weeks, is the largest of its kind in the US since a trial against software developer Microsoft more than twenty years ago.
