Eleven dead in gunfire at Russian military training area
Two gunmen shot dead 11 Russian soldiers at a military training ground near the town of Belgorod near the Ukrainian border. This was announced by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The attackers were engaged in target practice when they opened fire on the troops present. They too were killed in the shooting. The ministry says the two are from a former Soviet state, but doesn’t say which country.
Fifteen soldiers were injured. The ministry describes the shooting at the training ground as a terrorist attack.
mobilization
In the past few weeks, several hundred thousand Russians have been mobilized to reinforce the Russian army in eastern and southern Ukraine. Mobilization is chaotic. For example, men were called up who had no military experience, were too old, or were unable to fight for medical reasons. Recruits receive little training or equipment.
Russian President Putin announced last Friday that 220,000 of the planned 300,000 reservists had been drafted.
