Trump is preparing for another indictment for trying to stay in the White House

Former president Donald Trump claims to have received a letter from the US Department of Justice informing him of the federal prosecutor’s interest, which he is investigating is trying to subvert the 2020 electionit says in a post by Trump himself on the Istina social network, which he owns.

In 2020, the millionaire and his team, after learning of the election defeat to Joe Biden, undertook a series of efforts to try to prevent the transfer of power. Among other things, Trump and his entourage spread allegations of fictitious voter fraud (some based on allegedly rigged mail-in voting), pressured US officials not to certify the election results, and attempted to falsify the results in several states by presenting Electoral College votes attributed to fraudulent voters.

The letter that Trump claims to have received could be a sign that the investigation led by special counsel Jack Smith is preparing to bring charges. In the United States, it is common for these types of communications to occur when the prosecution has sufficient evidence to link the recipient to the facts.

For Trump, receiving a letter from Smith’s team seemed routine. “This has never happened here”, the millionaire wrote in Istina. Even so, he defended the campaign stop in Iowa that Americans “fully understand what’s going on. This is meddling in elections. He uses justice as a weapon.”

Apart from his high-profile statements, neither Trump nor the Justice Department have predicted what charges the millionaire could face. According to American media, they could include obstructing official proceedings, conspiracy to defraud the government and witness tampering. To these charges, which refer to actions directly aimed at undermining the 2020 election process, would be added that of fraud, related to Trump’s attempts to use the money of his followers to finance his efforts to stay in power.
