Schweizer has to pay 60,000 euros after the Corona party

In the summer of 2021, Palma’s Majorcan Old Town will not have the usual August crowds. In July, all of Spain was declared a high-incidence region and strict corona rules came into effect.

But not everyone adhered to the measures. This is also the case in the chic Son Vida neighborhood in Palma de Mallorca. There, the island’s young high society had a big party, as reported by the “Mallorca Zeitung”. Including a Swiss.

The party is now having consequences. The 114 guests must pay a total of 6.8 million euros in fines for serious violations of the Corona rules in force at the time. Each guest would have to pay 60,000 euros.

Guests defend themselves with lawyers

The party started on August 21 and apparently it was hot. Because local residents complained to the police and the officials then broke up the illegal celebration.

While some of the guests managed to escape, the names of 114 people were stolen. Including famous people from the economy. Some of the caught defend themselves against the high fine. According to “Diario de Mallorca”, lawyers would already check the proportionality of the sentence.

In the summer of 2021 in particular, the corona numbers in Spain – especially among young people – had skyrocketed. The country was one of the most affected by the pandemic in Europe at the time, with nearly 81,000 corona deaths and more than 3.8 million cases of infection. (hei/SDA)
