The last-generation climate alliance targeted 26 German cities on Friday. With the nationwide protest, they wanted to encourage the German government to do more climate protection in transport. The accusation: the government does not do enough for the climate and even violates the law.
During the day, Carla Hinrichs (26), co-founder and spokeswoman for the Last Generation, confronted Chancellor Olaf Scholz (65, SPD) about what she said the government was breaking the law. Scholz didn’t seem too happy about it.

A video posted to Twitter by Climate Alliance itself shows the scenes. Hinrichs clings to Scholz and his entourage in front of the Bundestag and begins pestering the Chancellor with questions.
“Are you really succeeding in really protecting our society? How do you plan to do that?” said Hinrichs. Volker Wissing (53), the Federal Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, had to present a program to the people, but “he does not do that”, according to the climate watcher.
Scholz doesn’t let this accusation stand and promptly contradicts her: “But he does.” But it doesn’t stop there: “People keep saying the wrong things,” the SPD official continued. In fact, Germany is the country that will be CO₂ neutral in 2040. “As the fourth-largest economy, this is a huge burden.”
Hinrichs then wants to answer him – but the chancellor won’t let her finish. When she replies, “What I see is that it’s a very…”, the Chancellor interrupts, “No, you don’t know.”
The Chancellor also responded only limitedly to the question of whether he could understand that young people are afraid. “So I’m doing exactly what I said. That’s why it’s a good climate protection policy.” (dzc)
