During his state visit to Bulgaria, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sharply attacked his counterpart Rumen Radev. A TV program showed Zelensky criticizing Radev’s rejection of arms supplies to his country.
Radev would lean more towards Russia, while Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov is on the side of the EU and supports arms aid to Ukraine.
Petrified expression
The American magazine “Politico” reported on the official meeting of the delegations, which was televised. Selenskyj initially listened to his counterpart’s explanation with a petrified expression.
Radew spoke of the fact that there was “no military solution” to the war in Ukraine and that “more and more weapons” would not help.
Selenskyj then replied with little diplomacy: “God forbid that tragedy befall you and that you are in my place,” he said. “And if people with common values don’t help, what would you do? Would you say: ‘Putin, please take Bulgarian territory?'”
He admitted that Radev had the right not to help Ukraine. “But I really want you to understand me,” he told the Bulgarian president, who reportedly looked nervously at his notes.
Therefore, help for Ukraine is important – so that “the war does not come to you.”
Then the Ukrainian president added:
Radew finally hinted that he had a suggestion, but asked the television cameras to leave before continuing.
