Facebook group Meta’s Twitter competitor app will initially not be available in Europe. In the United States, the Twitter copy, called Threads, linked to Meta’s photo and video service Instagram will be launched on Thursday. Instagram refers to outstanding regulatory issues in the EU. However, it will be constantly checked whether the app can also be offered in Europe.
Threads is considered Twitter’s biggest potential rival, as the app taps into the network of hundreds of millions of already connected Instagram users. Other Twitter competitors have yet to build such links.
Twitter has been in crisis since the takeover of the short message service by tech billionaire Elon Musk. Among other things, the advertising revenue that Twitter used to finance itself will disappear after the migration of advertisers. Musk also recently annoyed users with a limit on the number of tweets you can view per day. (sda/awp/dpa)
