An accident during an excursion with an excavator killed a child and an adult in Toppenstedt (D) in the state of Lower Saxony. Ten other children were injured on Saturday night, some seriously, four of them had to be taken to clinics by helicopter, a spokesperson for the fire service told the German news agency.
The accident happened at a tent camp organized by fathers with their children in kindergarten. One group was driven down a dirt road by an excavator “for fun”. The people were in a kind of lattice box that the wheel loader had lifted.
According to a police spokesman, the cause of the accident is believed to be a ruptured hydraulic hose. A hydraulic hose on the excavator ruptured, causing the bucket to detach from the excavator and fall down. Some people were buried under the coffin. The exact process is still unclear. (SDA)
