Zelensky and Ukraine celebrate the rebellion of the Wagner group

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskysaid this Saturday that the Wagner mercenary group’s rebellion against the Russian military and authorities reveals Moscow’s “weakness” and the self-destructive fervor the country would embark on when launching its major invasion of Ukraine.

“Russia’s weakness is evident,” Zelensky said in his first public reaction to the events in the neighboring country. “The longer Russia keeps its troops and mercenaries on our lands more chaos, pain and problems will be created“, added the Ukrainian head of state, where politicians and analysts celebrated the uprising.

Zelenski accused Russian President Vladimir Putin – without mentioning him by name – of “choose the path of evil” and that it is being “destroyed” in the process.

“He sends columns of soldiers to destroy lives in other countries and cannot prevent them from escaping and betraying him when they encounter resistance,” the Ukrainian president wrote in his message posted on Telegram.

“He despises the people and sends hundreds of thousands to war only to end up hiding at a barricade near Moscow from those he himself armed,” Zelensky said, referring to Wagner’s group, which is carrying out its insurgency after gaining power through his role in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“We maintain our strength, our unity,” Zelenski concluded his message. “All our commanders and all our soldiers know what they have to do,” said the Ukrainian president.

The advisor to the Ukrainian presidential office, Mikhailo Podoliak, one of the most influential people in Volodymyr Zelensky’s administration, said today in statements to the media that the rebellion of the Wagner mercenary group against part of the Russian army presupposes “the beginning of a civil struggle.” war in that country.

“Today we are witnessing the beginning of a civil war,” Podoliak said, as reported by Ukrainian public news agency Ukrinform.

Ukrainian intelligence and security services spoke on Saturday morning about the Wagner group’s insurgency in Russia, hailing the country’s near-civil war as an important step towards the end of the Russian invasion of its territory and the collapse of President Vladimir Putin.
