Jestetten (D) has been puzzling since Friday about a violent crime that took place on the banks of the Rhine near the Swiss border: a Swiss man is found dead – there is no trace of the perpetrator.
What is known: Last Thursday, the 31-year-old from St. Gallen left his home and drove his camping equipment to Jestetten to spend the night there.
Crime scene near a well-trodden hiking trail
Wild camping is actually forbidden there. Nevertheless, the man decided to spend the night directly on the banks of the Rhine, about 150 meters from the bathing area. He had the necessary equipment with him. A narrow path leads to the crime scene, much used, part of the hiking trail from the Rhine Falls to the mouth of the Thur.
The adventure in nature ends with his death.
Somewhere in the night from Thursday to Friday morning, the man was beaten with a blunt object. Cause of death: traumatic brain injury. In addition, forensic medicine found multiple injuries to the head and face.
A wooden stick?
Passers-by found his body around 11:20 a.m. Friday and alerted the police. This set up the special committee “Stick” over the weekend with about 40 criminal police officers from all over the area of the Freiburg police headquarters.
As a police spokesperson for the “Tagesanzeiger” says, the name of the SoKo has nothing to do with a USB stick, but with objects found on the spot. Did the police seize the murder weapon – for example a wooden stick? The authorities are still silent about this.
The police are still looking for witnesses and are combing the area around the crime scene and discovery with dog squads. In Jestetten itself, the population is appalled. A resident says to the “Südkurier”: “It is hard to believe that such a thing exists in Jestetten.” (new)
