US President Joe Biden’s Democrats surprisingly defended their Senate majority in congressional elections. The Republican candidates backed by Donald Trump, in particular, failed en masse. It is still unclear who will have the floor in the House of Representatives in the future.

The Midterms as seen by caricaturists.

Many Republicans expressed frustration with the results of the Senate election and called for a general change of direction in their party. Some openly blamed Trump for backing some radical candidates who failed.

Outgoing Republican Chief Executive Larry Hogan told CNN on Sunday, “Trump has cost us the last three elections and I don’t want that to happen a fourth time.”

Before the election, a “red wave of success” was predicted for Republicans and a debacle for Democrats. But neither happened.

Many Republicans view Ron DeSantis as a new beacon of hope, having clearly been re-elected Florida governor in the midterm elections.

Unlike many Trump-backed candidates, Florida Governor DeSantis celebrated a resounding election victory. He could now become the next Republican presidential candidate. Florida, Trump’s great rival said, is the mortal enemy of those who describe themselves as “awake.”

Trump, who is expected to announce a presidential bid for the 2024 election next Tuesday evening (local time), sharply attacked DeSantis in posts on his social media platform Truth Social.
