Sweden plans the cheapest electric car in Europe

Bright colors, clear shapes, good mood – so far, so Ikea. But not only a new small car from the Swedish brand Luvly has something of the furniture giant’s concept.

A Swedish start-up wants to be successful with the Ikea formula. Luvly’s electric cars are not allowed to come to customers with a bag of screws and an Allen key. But another idea from the furniture giant makes the Stromer unbeatably cheap, says the manufacturer from Stockholm.

The first of a planned series of models will be the Luvly O. The mini electric car (2.70 meters long) costs from 10,000 euros and weighs less than 400 kg. Instead of a very heavy XXL battery, it is powered by two replaceable battery modules, each weighing only 15 kg and having a capacity of 3 kWh.

With replacement battery: Empty batteries can be exchanged for full ones at a replacement station. Other manufacturers like Nio follow similar concepts.

Nevertheless, the range should be 100 kilometers, because the two-seater consumes only 6 kWh. Charging at the wall outlet should take one hour per battery. The top speed is 90 km/h, the trunk volume is 267 liters. At least you can get by with it in city traffic.

The mini electric vehicles may not come off the assembly line fully assembled, but must be shipped in separate parts. They are then fully assembled in small on-site factories. The advantage: In this way, even 20 prefabricated kits fit into a single freight container that can hold four ready-made cars – at least for the entry-level model. Because in addition to the two-seater, a sporty three-wheeled buggy and a small transporter are also planned.

The technical data at a glance
Top speed: 90 km/h
Range: 100 km
Consumption: 6 kWh/100 km
Dimensions: 2.70 m long, 1.53 m wide, 1.44 m high

Incidentally: Despite the low prices, the start-up does not want to save on the safety of its cars. For example, energy-absorbing impact protection, as used in Formula 1, is planned. And during production, the aim is to protect the environment and in particular resources. However, Luvly (from English “Lovely”, German: beautiful, beautiful, wonderful) has not yet revealed when production will begin.
