Meanwhile in China, European automakers are hoping to find their fortunes in the world’s largest auto market with luxury models alone. When we look at Auto China in Shanghai among European brands, this is at least the picture.

Let’s take BMW for example. The people of Munich have postponed the world premiere of the new, all-electric 660 hp top model i7 M70 xDrive, especially for the auto show in China. In addition to the expensive electric limousine 5.39 meters long, 2.8 tons and 212,900 francs, BMW is showing off another electric steam hammer with the 750 hp hybrid XM Red Label.

In response to this BMW power surge, Mercedes Maybach is again presenting the EQS SUV in China, which costs over 200,000 francs, and replaces the old twelve-cylinder engine with electric motors totaling 650 hp and 950 Nm. Porsche is showing off its all-new Cayenne – not all-electric, but at least as a plug-in hybrid with an electric range of up to 80 kilometers. And with the ID.7, VW introduces the new flagship of the all-electric ID family. At nearly five meters long, the electric Passat shines with plenty of space and a range of up to 700 kilometers on a single battery charge.

Volvo subsidiary Polestar, once Swedish but now part of the Chinese Geely group, is showing the new Polestar 4 between the Polestar 2 and 3 amid a huge sea of tulips. And with Smart, another former European brand now owned by the Chinese Geely Group, it sends a sign of life with its new product #3.
