Seat’s sister brand Cupra is taking the next step towards electromobility with the electric SUV Tavascan. By 2030, all Cupra models should be fully electric.

This new electric model will play an important role in the future of Cupra. It is entering the boom segment of mid-size electric SUVs with Seat’s sports subsidiary Tavascan. So where sister brands have long been represented by technically closely related models Audi Q4 E-Tron, Skoda Enyaq or VW ID.4. Head of Exterior Design Julio Lozano enjoyed maximum design freedom despite being in his own group: “Cupra is a brand without a past. For Lozano, these features distinguish the 4.64-metre Tavascan from similar group models: “Superhero mask at the front, coupé-like profile, rising waist, and lighted triangle signature.” And the name? Tavascan, Spain It is a village in northern Catalonia.

High-quality materials in the interior

The interior continues independently – a copper strip running across the entire front panel and a chrome bridge in the form of a delta wing. “We used particularly light materials in the interior,” says Alberto Torresillas, Tavascan’s chief designer. The ambient lighting is adapted depending on the driver’s wishes or the driving programme. Both materials and workmanship are worth more than some competing models, including those from the VW Group. Behind the steering wheel, the driver looks at a small 5.3-inch instrument cluster, on which, on better-equipped versions, a perceptible head-up display shines. The central 15-inch display for the navigation system, function controls and audio system is larger and well-positioned, as are illuminated buttons for climate control.

The standard sports seats provide good lateral support and can be upholstered in fabric and microfibre, as well as in faux leather or genuine leather on request. Thanks to the 2.76-metre wheelbase, there’s ample room for three adults in the rear, and legroom is particularly generous. The 540-litre luggage compartment can be variably enlarged by folding the rear seat.

With 286 to 340 hp and 4×4

First, the Cupra Tavascan will come with 286 hp (210 kW) rear-wheel drive. Above that is the 340 hp (250 kW) VZ all-wheel drive version, where up to 30 percent of the drive power can be directed to the front wheels for a more dynamic driving style. The Cupra Tavascan VZ accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds from takeoff, but the speed is already limited to 180 km/h in favor of range. The electric SUV is offered with two battery packs with a capacity of 58 or 77 kilowatt-hours (kWh), which should provide a range of up to 550 kilometers. The maximum charging speed is 170 kilowatts (kW).

And prices for the start of sales in early 2024? Unfortunately they haven’t been fixed yet.
