Christmas is over. But the biggest gift for a lucky car collector won’t arrive until February. This is when Bugatti puts the Profilée up for auction, one of the most exclusive one-off models in automotive history. Technically, the super sports car is based on the famous Chiron Pur Sport. Instead of maximum speed depending on the version, the Chiron reaches an insane 440 km/h! – at the forefront with its dynamics and driving behavior when cornering.
This technology combines the unique piece with new design improvements. Bugatti initially planned to produce 30 Profilée vehicles, but things turned out differently. “When we saw the pre-production prototype come off the assembly line, Pur Sport was an extraordinary success. Because the Chiron was limited to a total of 500, we could no longer continue the planned production of 30 of the Profilée,” said Christophe Piochon, President of Bugatti Automobiles. we knew. The Profilée is – in every way – a true Bugatti and a unique piece of automotive history for collectors.”
16 cylinders, 1500 hp
It is a one-off, fixed rear wing custom-built product from the factory in Molsheim, Alsace. On the one hand, this maximizes the downforce of the rear axle, providing stability up to top speed. At the same time, the wing draws hot air from the engine compartment by means of negative pressure. Driving is identical to that of the Chiron Pur Sport, whose supercharged 16-cylinder engine with eight-liter displacement continues to deliver a massive 1500 hp (1102 kW). Thanks to the shorter gear ratio, the all-wheel drive super sports car accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds and has already reached 200 km/h after 5.5 seconds. Pur Sport is limited to 350 km/h, while the Bugatti Profilée allows a top speed of 380 km/h.
“With the customer’s wishes in mind, we fitted an elegant, fixed sweep tail that has been optimized both aerodynamically and thermodynamically for the Chiron Profilée’s unmatched performance,” explains Bugatti designer Frank Heyl. “We also created an elegant and timeless shape instead of the Chiron’s hydraulic rear wing or the Pur Sport’s two-metre-wide fixed wing. We named the Profilée in honor of one of Jean Bugatti’s first creations, the Bugatti Type 46 and Type 50.”
The paint called Argent Atlantique was developed specifically for Profilée. The lower part of the vehicle is presented in dark blue with visible carbon tint. The Profilée is also the first Chiron to feature a woven leather-covered interior with 2500 straps on the dashboard, door panels and center console.
million record?
Pricing cannot be given as the Bugatti Chiron Profilée will be auctioned for charity at an RM Sotheby’s auction in Paris on February 1, 2023. The super sports car is almost certain to generate tens of millions of revenue. This means it can set two records at once: On the one hand, it could replace La Voiture Noire as the most expensive Bugatti of all time, estimated to be worth around 17 million francs.
On the other hand, the Profilée may even be the most expensive new car of all time. To do so, however, he would have to bring the equivalent of more than 26 million francs into the auction house’s coffers – for that sum, British luxury brand Rolls-Royce’s convertible Boat Tail, which was built only three times. It is said to have been recently sold to the son of a pearl manufacturer. As early as 2021, US rap superstars Jay-Z and Beyoncé are said to have indulged in the strictly limited vehicle, yacht-style rear, for around 23 million francs.
