It needs to be pasted again – where is the e-vignette?

We hold meetings virtually over the screen. We have been banking through e-banking for a long time. And now we pay electronically by card or Twint even in the shop in the village. But starting today, in 2022 we will be sticking a highway vignette on the windshield of our car or motorcycle (all the information on the new highway vignette can be found here) – only after the council’s affirmative decision three years ago. 2022 digital e-sticker will be introduced.

From the Federal Customs Administration (FCA), which has been responsible for highway vignettes since it was introduced in 1985, we wanted to find out why the timely release of the e-vignette for 2022 didn’t work. The Federal Office answered our written questions in a evasive and rather frivolous manner. “Federal Customs has always stated that electronic vignettes will not be available until 2022 at the earliest. Meanwhile, the program has become more tangible.” Aha.

E-vignette should arrive in 2023

At least we know from an earlier FCA bulletin that the e-vignette is expected to be released in 2023. But where are the difficulties in introducing an electronic vignette system based on license plate recognition, for example, when more sophisticated license plate recognition systems are already available for criminal prosecution? FCA’s unsatisfactory response: “The entry date was coordinated with FCA’s duties and other projects.” It can’t get more specific than that.

After all, there is a clear answer to the question: “No, e-vignette will not become more expensive. The two vignette variants cost the same.» So 40 francs. And the previous model (click for guide: How to remove vignette very easily) will continue to exist despite the e-vignette to scrape it again painstakingly.

Replaceable platter drives benefit

Finally, EZV spokesperson Donatella Del Vecchio made a clear statement that will delight many classic car and mobile home owners: “Variable license plate owners will benefit from the introduction of the electronic vignette. Because only one e-vignette is required for vehicles with replaceable license plates.” Concretely, these drivers save a lot of money!

Maybe 37 years from now, if the federal government actually uses the digital e-vignette by 2023, we’ll be sticking the last vignette on the windshield starting today.
