Microsoft is increasing its focus on artificial intelligence by hiring one of the most renowned experts in the field. Mustafa Suleyman is giving up his position as head of AI start-up Inflection AI and taking over the reins of a new Microsoft division, the software company announced on Tuesday.
The AI products aimed at consumers are bundled under the Microsoft AI umbrella. This includes Copilot assistants and artificial intelligence features in Microsoft’s Bing search engine and Edge browser.
Suleyman co-founded AI pioneer DeepMind, which was bought by Google in 2014. He left the internet company in 2022 and founded the start-up Inflection AI, which developed the chatbot Pi. Another co-founder, Karén Simonyan, will also join Microsoft AI and become chief scientist. Inflection AI, meanwhile, wants to focus on developing AI chatbots for companies in the future.
