It will be a surprise when you open the back doors. Porsche’s new Taycan upper model, called Turbo GT, will be available as an option with only two seats. Instead of a noble rear seat, there is only a shelf made of carbon fiber behind the front seats. You can store your luggage there or leave it alone. Because the back seat ultimately flies, primarily due to weight.
Because: When it comes to performance, the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire, each with over 1000 hp, have so far been in a league of their own, which Porsche also wants to play in. The sports car manufacturer from Stuttgart is launching the Turbo GT as a top model to renew its Taycan electric sedan. It delivers 789 hp (580 kW) at continuous power, maximum acceleration of up to 1033 hp (760 kW) in launch control mode, and up to 1108 hp (815 kW) for two seconds.
More power at the push of a button
Copied from the Formula E racing series: By pressing a button on the steering wheel, 163 hp (120 kW) of additional power can be accessed for passing sprints. The power-up is then displayed with a countdown timer on the HUD. The most powerful Taycan performs the zero-to-100 km/h sprint in 2.2 seconds; It takes only 6.4 seconds to reach 200 km/h. With the optional Weissach package, top speed increases from 290 km/h to 305 km/h. Range? It’s an almost irrelevant figure for a sports car like this, but the Turbo GT should be able to cover between 555 and 605 kilometers based on WLTP standard consumption. Standard consumption is between 20.6 and 21.7 kWh per 100 kilometers.
A 50 percent increase in energy output results in higher power output. A new pulse inverter can deliver a maximum current of 900 amps instead of only 600 amps as before. Additionally, the gear ratio and stability of the 2-speed transmission have been improved; it can now handle a maximum torque of 1340 Newton meters (Nm).
Will the 1108 horsepower Taycan surpass it?
So what did he achieve? Is Taycan leaving Tesla and Lucid behind? Not exactly: Tesla’s Plaid-drive Model S produces 1020 hp (750 kW), hits 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 322; which clearly outperforms the Taycan Turbo GT. Lucid’s Air Sapphire has 1251 hp (920 kW), a sprint time of 1.9 seconds and a top speed of 330 km. At least on paper. But it’s quite possible that Turbo GT won’t mark its end just yet. Finally, there are GTS models in Porsche’s other model series.
It starts at 272,500 francs with the Turbo GT. The Weissach package, which includes the XL rear spoiler, carbon add-on parts and ceramic brakes and weighs minus 75 kilograms due to the absence of a rear seat, can be ordered at no extra cost. If you like purple: No extra charge. However, the price of the freely chosen favorite color goes up to 26,990 francs.
