Nissan’s third-generation electric vehicles are already: The five-seat Nissan Ariya has been on the market since 2022.

Nissan became the first company to prove that it was possible to produce and sell large numbers of electric cars in 2010 with the Leaf. By the end of 2023, over a quarter of a million units had rolled off the assembly line at Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the UK alone. The Ariya was supposed to be the next successful model: But only 223 units were sold in Switzerland last year. Nissan’s hybrid SUV

Ariya’s performance increase will now give new momentum. Evolve 400 is the name of the new top version of the five-seater and is now available with 394 hp (290 kW) and all-wheel drive thanks to two electric motors. For at least 67,990 francs, you not only get 88 horsepower more than the previous most powerful model, but also the full equipment list. Externally it looks no different from the previous Ariya, and the interior remains unchanged, with buttons hidden beneath seamless surfaces.

Economical and high traction power

All-wheel drive provides plenty of traction, with both electric motors flexibly distributing power depending on the driving situation. The Ariya is less concerned with cornering, but the steering lacks precision and the chassis lacks flexibility – you also notice the weight of over 2.3 tonnes. This pedal, also called the e-pedal, which accelerates when pressed and brakes by regenerative braking when released, also takes time to get used to: When activated, the pedal retracts slightly and the resistance of the pedal increases during braking. Also, recuperation does not brake until it comes to a stop; Below 5 km/h you must press the brake pedal yourself. When healing is turned off, Ariya rolls gently and seemingly endlessly.

Ariya e-4orce Evolve 400 accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds; this is 0.6 seconds faster than the 400 in the model name and continues to accelerate to a top speed of 200 km/h. Snow, Eco, Normal and Sport driving modes visibly change driving behavior; Even in eco economy gear, the thrust is easily sufficient for swimming in the city and urban areas.

Convincing: Nissan states that standard consumption is 20.4 kWh/100 km, but in the test tour including fast driving we reached 18.8 kWh/100 km. The capacity of the battery is 87 kWh and theoretically it should travel 498 kilometers. The Ariya gets plus points for AC charging, which is possible with a maximum of 22 kW; This is something not every electric car can do yet. However, it only manages a maximum charging power of 130 kW on the DC fast charger. The battery can be charged from 20 percent to 80 percent in 40 minutes – which is just a mediocre figure. The carrying capacity of the 394 horsepower Ariya is around 400 kilograms, depending on the equipment.

Lots of space, suitable materials

The interior deserves top marks for its appearance and design: the standard panoramic roof provides light, the impressive interior and details such as the center console, which can be moved electrically at the push of a button, impress. But private keys require firm pressure. Despite the coupé-like roofline, there’s plenty of room in the back: even if you’re over 1.85 meters tall, it won’t feel tight around your head. Thanks to the flat loading floor, the boot volume is sufficient from 415 to 1280 liters with the rear seat backrests folded. The only negative point in the cockpit is the pixelated graphics of the instruments and the touchscreen of the infotainment system.

Advert

Let’s start with the Nissan Ariya e-4orce Evolve 400, which starts at 67,990 francs; this is a manageable 3000 franc surcharge compared to the weaker second all-wheel drive version with 306 hp (225 kW).
