With stars from “The Crown”, “Chernobyl” and “Witcher”: German trailer for the true crime comedy “Little Dirty Letters”

‘Little Dirty Letters’ is based on a true scandal from the 1920s that apparently gripped Britain for months. The idea and script for the film came from comedian Jonny Sweet, who delivered his first script here. As an actor, you may know Sweet from smaller roles in “Johnny English – You Only Live Three Times” or “The Darkest Universe”. The film was directed by ‘A Whole Six Months’ director Thea Sharrock. The Londoner is currently working on her next film, the sports drama ‘The Beautiful Game’ for Netflix.

“Little Dirty Letters” will premiere in German cinemas nationwide on March 28, 2024.

The two leading roles are played by Oscar winner Olivia Colman (“The Favorite”, “The Crown”) and Jessie Buckley from “Chernobyl” and “Woman in the Dark”, who was previously nominated for an Oscar and three BAFTAs.

Also by her side are Hugh Skinner from “The Witcher,” Timothy Spall (“The King’s Speech”), Gemma Jones (“Rocketman”), Alisha Weir (“Abigail”) and Anjana Vasan from the final season of “Killing Eve” and the great “Black Mirror” episode “Demon 79”.

“Little Dirty Letters”: that’s the story

The feisty Rose Gooding (Buckley) is a young mother from Ireland. Shortly after her husband died in World War I, she moved with her daughter Nancy (Weir) to the English Channel town of Littlehampton, England. Rose and the ultra-conservative Edith Swan (Colman), who still lives with her parents (Jones, Spall), have little in common other than the fact that they live next door to each other. Nevertheless, the two women initially become friends and get along well.

But one day Edith and other townspeople begin receiving obscene letters full of wild insults. Suspicion immediately falls on Rose, who does not exactly express herself carefully, likes to drink from her thirst and is not averse to meeting male acquaintances. She is immediately arrested and imprisoned by Constable Papperwick (Skinner), based solely on rumor and conjecture. However, his young colleague Gladys Moss (Vasan) believes in Rose’s innocence. Despite her superiors’ ban, she begins to investigate on her own and discovers something incredible…
