As of September 30, 2023, 599,784 vehicles were registered in the canton of Aargau, the canton’s Department of Finance and Resources (DFR) announced on Thursday. The increase since the beginning of October 2022 has been 7,991 vehicles, or 1.4 percent.

It was stated that the rate of passenger cars with electric or hybrid engines has never been as high as this year. Of the 420,053 people in Aargau, 13,542 use fully electric driving; This means a double increase compared to 2021.

The number of gasoline and diesel engine passenger cars decreased by 1.2 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively, compared to the previous year. However, combustion engines still accounted for 89.5 percent of Aargau’s passenger car population; of these, 61.8 percent were powered by gasoline and 27.6 percent by diesel.

As statistics show, due to population growth, the level of motorization decreased slightly by 0.6 percent compared to the previous year, falling to 582.7 vehicles per 1,000 people. This value was lowest in Ennetbaden with 438.3 passenger cars, followed by Windisch with 449.4 and Suhr with 461.5. Birrhard (805.3), Mönthal (779.4) and Kirchleerau (772.1) had the highest motorization level.
