Second homes include both privately occupied apartments and professionally managed furnished apartments. Data from the 2023 survey allow us to conclude for the first time that both groups grew proportionally, as the Statistical City Zurich announced on Thursday.
The number of private second homes has increased by 440 since 2020. The number of condominiums has increased significantly every year since 2017, especially last year and this year. There are currently 4,710 apartments.
The proportion of second homes in neighborhoods varies greatly. This rate is highest in Region 1 with 16 percent. In contrast, in the 12th district (Schwamendingen) and the Affoltern, Höngg and Albisrieden regions it is everywhere below 2 percent. Region 1 recorded the strongest increase since 2020 with 2.5 percentage points, followed by Region 4 with 1.9 percentage points.
The city of Zurich has been counting the number of second homes since 2017.
