It’s been very quiet around Honda in Europe lately. The first Stromer, the Honda-e, debuted three years ago; After all, a new generation of Civic followed last year. But: the Japanese developed a few electric innovations during the creative break. And all of these will be available for purchase from us this year.
Honda is bringing another, in addition to the modern-looking, all-electric compact SUV e:Ny1, which we will debut for the first time next month, and the new sixth-generation SUV CR-V, which is significant in terms of volume. electric model is in the fall with the slim compact SUV ZR-V hybrid model on the market. And it should appeal to the tastes of many today’s customers, with a trendy, slim SUV look and economical hybrid driving.
Same ride as Civic
Regarding driving: The e:HEV full-hybrid drive with a two-liter petrol engine and system power of 184 hp (135 kW) and its unusual but efficient operating mode (see box) are already convincing in our long-term test. Vehicle Civic e:HEV. And he did it during our first test drive in the Barcelona area with the ZR-V. The 1.6-tonne front-wheel drive accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds in a lively and light-footed manner. Top speed is sufficient at 173 km/h and the chassis setting is typically Honda-sporty, but never uncomfortably harsh. The steering responds precisely and directly. In short, despite its slightly taller and slightly heavier body, the ZR-V is as agile as the Civic sedan on which the new compact SUV is based.
Unlike the all-electric Honda-e and e:Ny1, which look very progressive from the outside and especially from the inside, the ZR-V has a more realistic look. This is true for the slim but distinctive styling of the compact body, which doesn’t include gimmicks like cameras instead of side mirrors. But above all for the cockpit, which offers a nice mix of digitized screenshots and physical control buttons. Behind the steering wheel is a nine-inch touchscreen to the right of the steering wheel on the dash to operate the navigation system, music and vehicle settings, along with combined digital/analog circular displays for the rev counter and speedometer. Temperature and climate are operated one level down using conventional rotary knobs.
Significantly larger than HR-V
At 4.57 meters, the ZR-V is 23 centimeters longer than the smaller SUV HR-V, but only 3.2 centimeters shorter, but six centimeters flatter than the larger, current CR-V (a successor is also coming) autumn). Despite its relatively compact dimensions, the ZR-V passenger sits comfortably in both the front and rear, with ample leg and headroom and ample luggage space (380 to 1312 litres). Speaking of feudal: The ZR-V will be available from October 2023 in three equipment lines Elegance, Sport and Advance. And as an improvement, the rear seat can be heated as standard.
Honda did not want to comment on ZR-V prices in Switzerland. But considering the full hybrid HR-V costs 35,590 Francs and the current CR-V costs 45,990 Francs, the ZR-V should probably have a price tag of between CHF 40,000.
