The news came out on Tuesday and shocked Swiss football: Sion goalkeeper Heinz Lindner (32) has testicular cancer. “You can imagine that this diagnosis hit me hard,” he writes on Instagram.

Now Lindner’s wife Anna-Christina is also speaking. “The past few days and weeks have been very tough,” she writes on Instagram. “It was extremely demanding emotionally, physically and mentally.”

“We will get through this as a family”

But she remains combative. “Life isn’t always easy. But whatever happens, we will get through this as a family. It will only make us stronger.”

Lindner’s former FCB teammate Timm Klose (35) says: “I was shocked when I found out. Diagnoses like that put everything in a different light. It shows what really matters in life.” Fortunately, Heinz’s cancer was detected early and he has already had a successful operation, Klose continues. “I wish him a lot of strength and peace to get well again.”

During their brief time together at FCB, he and Lindner always got along well and are still in sporadic contact to this day. Klose is thrilled that Lindner made his diagnosis public. “It is also important to sensitize and point out this disease to all men.”

“Hopefully Heinz will return to the field soon!”

In England, for example, prevention against testicular cancer was applied in many football clubs, says Klose. “There were often instructions on how to feel about yourself and what to look out for.”

Classification captain Amir Abrashi (33), who played one season with Lindner at FCB, had to swallow twice when he heard about the illness. He says: “I’m rooting for Heinz and hope he returns to the field soon. He’s going to get it!”
