Bye everyone!

We stay in Riga in a hotel on the banks of the river Daugava. Two other teams are also housed here. And in every tournament it’s the same: the rooms have to be divided again and again, depending on the arrival and departure of the players. This can change regularly, especially during preparation.

For me it was a bit complicated. When I joined the national team a few days before the start of the World Cup, the rooms had already been allocated. I was assigned to Mike Künzle, my teammate at EHC Biel. It was a good fit because he is someone I get along with.

Kunzle had to go home

When we arrived in Riga, the team boss asked us to share with him our wishes for the tournament. Mike was doing really well, so we asked to keep it going. Selection is often based on club membership. But sometimes it’s just a matter of sympathy. But at the start of the tournament, Mike had to travel home as an extra player, so I was alone for a few days afterwards. Until Sunday newcomer Kevin Fiala walked into my room. Let’s see if he likes me.

In general, life in the community is going well. We are often together. But not all the time. We always find times when we can be alone and do what we want. This is a balance that must always be found. I brought books to keep me busy, but I have to admit I haven’t touched them yet.

After the World Cup we go to the exam

I also need to study for my real estate courses. I should have written a test at the beginning of May. Due to the play-offs and the World Cup, this date was postponed until after the tournament. I always try to take some time and immerse myself in it. Otherwise we have a room with table tennis and a TV to watch the other World Cup matches. The time between training sessions and our own matches goes quickly.
