It was the 67th minute of the Regionalliga Südwest match between TSG Hoffenheim’s second team and VfR Aalen when Aalen striker Steffen Kienle (28) violently hit the post when he had a chance to score and remained motionless.
Team doctors from both teams immediately stormed onto the field and treated the injured man, who even had to be resuscitated. Hoffenheim’s team doctor Yannic Bangert told TV channel SWR after the game: “We assume his chest slipped against the post. When I arrived, the player was unconscious and unresponsive. We quickly started CPR. Fortunately, he came right back.”
In the evening, VfR Aalen announced on her Twitter account that Kienle was stable and responsive. In addition, the German is on his way to the hospital.
Since the players of both teams felt unable to continue playing after the scare, the game was eventually stopped at 0-0. We are currently looking for a catch-up date. The match is very important for both teams as Hoffenheim are still playing for promotion and Aalen to stay up. (byl)
