Olympic ski and snowboard champion: the Czech Ester Ledecka is a phenomenon.
Mathias Germannsports reporter

When Ester Ledecka won Olympic gold in Super-G at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, many shook their heads. How was that possible? Ledecka eventually became Olympic champion on one and two boards, on skis and on a snowboard. She wrote the biggest fairy tale of the Winter Games in South Korea. In fact, such great successes in different sports are rare. Perhaps the most famous multiple star was Jim Thorpe (1887-1953). The American won Olympic gold in the pentathlon and decathlon, was a professional American football and baseball player and also played basketball.

In the recent past, Thorpe’s compatriot Lolo Jones (40) caused a sensation. She was indoor hurdle world champion in 2008 and 2010 and bobsleigh world champion in 2013. Luc Alphand (57) also moved successfully on different floors. The downhill specialist became overall World Cup winner in 1997 and won the Dakar Rally nine years later.

And from Switzerland? Kathrin Lehmann (43) won the highest European cup competition in both ice hockey and football. Meanwhile, Simon Ehammer (23) is in the middle of his career, having won bronze in the long jump at the 2022 World Cup and silver in the decathlon at the European Championships.
