Belgian Luca Brecel (28) defeated his opponent Mark Selby (39) 18-15 in the final of the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield to become the first world champion from mainland Europe.
This success should of course be celebrated appropriately. There was no bad blood between the two opponents in the final – on the contrary. Brecel and Selby partied all night with friends. Four-time world champion Selby even wished Queen’s DJ “We are the champions” for the brand new champion.
4 hours to bed
Brecel left the party at 4am, saying goodbye to his fans with a photo of the World Cup trophy on his bed.
Brecel knows about partying anyway, as he revealed to “The Sun”. The Belgian told the English newspaper that he only trained for 15 minutes in the week leading up to the tournament. Much more he spent his time playing darts, video games and partying.
“Before the tournament I was out partying and didn’t go to bed until six or seven, played Fifa with my friends, drank and didn’t train,” admits Brecel. (jsl)
