Russian tennis player Vitalia Diatchenko (32) should have competed in the ITF Tennis Open Calvi Eaux de Zilia in Corsica. But that did not happen, because the Polish airline LOT Diatchenko refused access to her plane because of her nationality.
According to his own statement on social media, the tennis star wanted to fly from Cairo to the French island via Warsaw, but Diatchenko was not allowed to board the Polish plane because of her Russian passport. Since September, Russian citizens are no longer allowed to enter Poland because of the war of aggression against Ukraine. “I am treated like a third-rate person,” Diatchenko complains.
Special rules didn’t help either
She even had a letter from her father, who was born in Ukraine and works for the United Nations (UN). Because the airline actually has the rule that Russians who have Ukrainian relatives are allowed to fly. “But this rule doesn’t seem to apply to me,” says Diatchenko.
After that, she could not leave the airport in the Egyptian capital for 18 hours, had nothing to eat and had to sleep on sofas. Due to missing the flight, Diatchenko had to forfeit the tournament in Corsica. (byl)
