Czech record champion Sparta Prague has released Jakub Jankto.

Sparta Prague announced on Wednesday that Jakub Jankto (27) has been exempted from competitions and training sessions with immediate effect. After an incident on the way, a conversation was held with the player which concluded that the midfielder “is unable to fulfill his obligations under the professional contract”. In mutual consultation, it was decided that Jankto should first “handle his personal situation”.

According to media reports, the player was caught in a traffic stop and refused to undergo a drug test and medical check. Although an alcohol test was negative, the professional football player must now have his driver’s license revoked because of an earlier incident.

Jankto only came out a few months ago

The case caused quite a stir: Jakub Jankto is one of the first football professionals to make his homosexuality public during his career. The Czech international made headlines last February with his statement. Reactions to his performance were mostly positive and Nati star Silvan Widmer also congratulated his former teammate.

The player himself commented on the current situation via Twitter. A lot has changed for him in the past year and that is why the current situation pushes him to think about his health first. He thanked the club and fans for their support and understanding.

Jankto was loaned to Sparta Prague by the Spanish club Getafe last summer. How his situation will develop after the release, the La Liga 15. not yet communicated. (nsa)
