With Chapter 24, the third season of the “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” has just come to a close – and with its final setting, it has quite subverted many fans’ expectations. Mind you, we’re talking now with spoilers about the “Mando” finale! Because there was no dramatic cliffhanger, nor a post-credits scene teasing further adventures or hinting at any of the other upcoming “Star Wars” series – Thrawn’s (Lars Mikkelsen) return in “Ahsoka”, for example.
What we have: A happy ending not only for Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), who will lead the Mandalorians into a new future on their home planet, but more importantly for Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his now highly official adopted son Din Grogu. The circular fade in particular with Grogu in focus somehow felt final – “That’s all the people!”, as the Looney Tunes would say. Is Din Djarin and Grogu’s story over after season 3 of The Mandalorian? Let’s take a look at all the information and theories we have about a possible fourth season.

Season 4 of The Mandalorian has been written
In early 2023, showrunner Jon Favreau announced that he had already written the script for Season 4 of The Mandalorian. That sounds good! In addition, the often well-informed fan site reports that Lucasfilm plans to begin shooting for the new season in October 2023 – and is already in the middle of pre-production. But: A fourth season of “The Mandalorian” has not been officially announced yet…
Each new season of the Mandoverse created by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni now seems certain to be in the works – and we strongly believe this is actually “The Mandalorian” Season 4. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the main story of Din Djarin and his son, formerly known as Baby Yoda, wouldn’t be completed and the duo’s adventures will continue. There are several options, which we present to you now.
‘The Mandalorian’ Season 4: Here’s What We Expect
In another season of “The Mandalorian”, Din Djarin doesn’t necessarily have to be in the foreground. Already in season 3, he and Grogu clearly stepped aside, the focus was placed on Bo-Katan and the reconquest of Mandalore. The fact that characters “hijack” other series is not new in the Mandoverse: Din Djarin surprisingly became the main character in the second half of “The Book of Boba Fett”.
And speaking of Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), as we’ve already reported, filming is also planned to showcase this character. So will The Book Of Boba Fett get a second season – or will Boba feature prominently in Season 4 of The Mandalorian?
In season 4 of The Mandalorian – the title does not necessarily refer to THE Mandalorian Din Djarin – so that very different storylines could be continued. After all, Bo-Katan Kryze, the Armorer (Emily Swallow) and company have work to do on Mandalore to help Mandalorian culture flourish again.
Option 1: Bo-Katan, Boba Fett and Co. board Season 4
Could also Bo-Katan looking for a way to forge the destroyed Darksaber’s crystal back into a new Darksaber – which might even happen in “Ahsoka”, after all, in this series there is a lightsaber builder on board with the droid Huyang (David Tennant)… And then there is mythosauruswho lives in the living waters of Mandalore and could finally come out.
Then you take another one eventual return of Boba Fett and maybe Fennec Shand (Ming Na Wen) besides, things are getting pretty busy in the season, which will probably only be eight episodes again. So it is quite possible that Din Djarin and his new adventures as the unofficial forest ranger of the New Republic are only part of the whole and not be the center of attention. That’s also what we probably expect: that “The Mandalorian” season 4, just like season 3, turns out to be a mishmash of different storylines – maybe even get a different (sub)title, although that is of course pure speculation.
Option 2: “Mando” Season 4 aka “Rangers Of The New Republic”?
Of course, it cannot be ruled out that the fourth season will again focus entirely on Din Djarin and Grogu, with Bo-Katan and Co. maybe get their own offshoot instead. Each episode could show Din Djarin and his Mandalorian apprentice Grogu taking on various assignments for Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) and the New Republic – thus a similar bounty hunter concept as seen in seasons 1 and 2.
That would also be a kind of “Rangers Of The News Republic” after this planned spin-off was canceled (for now) and may now simply be integrated into upcoming “The Mandalorian” seasons. And of course Din Djarins and Grogus nemesis Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) could also return, because maybe there are still clones of him somewhere…?
At the end there is the movie “The Mandalorian”.
But why shouldn’t it come as a surprise if the next season of The Mandalorian will be a crossover of several stories: In the end, all the stories from the Mandoverse go there anyway major crossover to – namely in the newly announced The Mandalorian feature film directed by Dave Filoni. In it, the different characters in the “Avengers” style must be brought together and experience a great adventure together.
So the villain could very well be Thrawn, who will be introduced in the upcoming Ahsoka series. The movie (as well as the seasons before it) could also be about the rise of the First Order from “Star Wars 7” – the clone program “Project Necromancer” has finally been revealed.
The big question before the start of this movie, which currently has no date but will probably not release until after “Star Wars 10” starring Rey Skywalker (Daisy Ridley), is: Which and how many seasons and series from the Mandoverse will we see until then? So far only (the first seasons of) have been officially confirmed”Star Wars: Ahsokaand “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” though it’s not entirely clear if the latter series is actually big in the Mandoverse or just happening at the same time. And we hope that at least Season 4 of The Mandalorian will be one of them.
