Celebrating one success after another: Tadej Pogacar. What’s his secret?

He looks like an elementary school student, but he is the strongest professional cyclist in the world: Tadej Pogacar. The 24-year-old Slovenian dominates the cycling year and has already achieved eleven victories. Including Paris-Nice, Tour of Flanders, Amstel Gold Race – great. He plans his peak in July, when he wants to win the Tour de France for the third time. “He is almost always in top form. I have never experienced anything like this,” says Marc Hirschi (24).

Born Berner is Pogacar’s teammate at UAE Emirates and has known him since childhood. “We tap in the same way, celebrating cycling. I love how playful Tadej is with all the pressure on his shoulders.”

In fact, Pogacar never seems persistent. Before the races he is easy going and when he loses he is extremely fair. Hirschi: “He’s very calm on the bike, doesn’t shout around – even when things get hectic. And he really appreciates that his teammates work for him. He lets us feel that.”

She thought Pogacar was too young

Pogacar combines talent and perfectionism. His fiancé, Urska Zigart (25), also gives him the ease he needs to win. She is also a cycling pro. The two first met in February 2017 during a training camp. At first they were just friends because Zigart thought Pogacar was still too young for her.

A year and a half later they became a couple and moved to Monaco – today they are engaged. Hirschi: “She is often present at our high altitude training camps in the pre-season. I think it makes Tadej’s life easier.” True to the motto: if your private life is right, your work is also easier.

Twitter duel with humor

Back to Pogacar’s debauchery. When ex-pro Dan Martin (36, Irl) called him “still a little kid” on Twitter before the last Tour de France, he replied: “You couldn’t follow that kid three years ago.” Martin then wrote that it was after 10pm and that Pogacar should be in bed by now. His counter: “I’ll sleep when I’m your age.” The two provided a lot of laughs – mainly because they made fun of each other.
