The owner of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram will lose 10,000 workers after cutting 11,000 jobs at the end of 2022.
Meta Platforms, the company that owns Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, will this Wednesday launch a a new wave of layoffs in the companywhich last March announced its intention to lay off 10,000 workers, after ending 11,000 jobs at the end of last year.
According to a memo seen by Bloomberg News, the multinational company reportedly told company officials to prepare to announce job cuts on Wednesday and to these adjustments will affect Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Reality Labsa division that brings together the company’s virtual reality efforts and Quest hardware.
In this regard, Meta would ask all its employees in North America to be able to work from home to do it this wednesdayin order to have time to process the news, the document states.
A memorandum distributed to company managers also said work teams would be reorganized and that several remaining employees would be reassigned to work with new managers.
Last March, Meta announced a new workforce adjustment plan which will mean the dismissal of about 10,000 workers, as well as closing about 5,000 unfilled jobs.
At the time, the company’s founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, indicated that Meta planned to go public restructuring and layoffs in its technology groups at the end of April and then in its business groups at the end of May, although he warned that in some cases it could take until the end of the year to complete the changes, while the timelines for affected international teams could also vary.
