Premier League clubs withdraw sponsorship from bookmakers

To help teams with their transition, the collective bargaining agreement will begin to apply at the end of the 2025-2026 season.

clubs Prime Minister League have agreed to withdraw bookmaker sponsorship from the front of their matchday shirts this Thursday, as they are the first professional league United Kingdom in it. “Clubs have collectively agreed to remove betting sponsorship from the front of their club match shirts as a measure to reduce betting advertising,” the Premier League said in a statement.

The announcement follows a wide-ranging consultation in which the Premier and its clubs took part alongside the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport, as part of the UK Government’s review of current gambling legislation.

The Premier League is also working with other sports to develop a new code for responsible sponsorship of games of chance. In order to help clubs in their transition from sponsoring the game to the shirt, the collective agreement will come into effect at the end of the 2025-2026 season.
