Neuchâtel Xamax failed to fight for league status in the Challenge League via legal action. The traditional Neuchâtel club failed before the International Court of Arbitration for Sport CAS with its appeal against a decision of the Swiss Football Association SFV regarding the modalities of promotion and relegation in the Promotion League.
The SFV had decided that the third best team in the Promotion League that is eligible for promotion at the end of the season could play the barrage with a second leg against the last team in the Challenge League. Xamax, on the other hand, demanded that it automatically remain in the Challenge League if any of the top 3 in the Promotion League failed to meet the promotion criteria.
