The EM 2025 will take place in Switzerland.

When will the 2025 European Women’s Championship take place?

In 2025, the European Championship will take place for the 14th time. The tournament takes place in Switzerland and is played in June and July.

In which stadiums will the matches be played?

A total of 31 matches will be played in eight stadiums. These are: Zurich, Basel, St. Gallen, Lucerne, Bern, Thun, Sion and Geneva. Incidentally, the artificial turf fields in Bern and Thun will be replaced by natural grass before the tournament.

How many teams are there?

For the third time, 16 countries are participating in the European Championship. Switzerland is already set as host country. The 15 other tickets for the final round will be awarded in qualifying.

How does the qualification work?

Qualifying will begin in spring 2024 after the conclusion of the Women’s Nations League. It consists of a league phase and a playoff phase.

In the league phase, countries are divided into three leagues. League A and League B with 16 teams each and League C with 19 teams. This distribution is based on the results in the Nations League.

The game is played in groups of four and three (League C), all teams play one home and one away game against each opponent.

The eight group winners and runners-up in League A qualify for the European Championship. The remaining places are awarded in two playoff rounds with home and away games.

In the first round, the third and fourth placed teams from League A will play against the group winners and the top three runners-up from League C. The eight winners of these matches will advance to Playoff Round 2.

The four group winners and the two best runners-up in League B play against the other two runners-up and the four third-placed teams in League B. The winners of these six matches also advance to playoff round 2.

Seven more matches will be drawn there, the winners of which will buy the ticket for the European Championship.
