Marc Marquez after his crash at the GP of Portugal.

The season opener in MotoGP has it all. Marc Marquez’s race is already over on the third lap. The Spaniard, who started from pole position, takes too many risks and makes a mistake in a corner. His bike then raced uncontrollably into that of Portuguese Miguel Oliveira. Portimao doesn’t seem like a good place for the MotoGP riders, there was already a big setback in GP training.

Italy’s Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia took the win. After the success in the sprint race (on Saturday), he crowned his optimal start of the season on Sunday. Second is Spaniard Maverick Viñales (Aprilia), third Bagnaia’s compatriot Marco Bezzecchi (also Ducati).

2021 World Champion Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) had a difficult weekend at the track in the Algarve. The Frenchman scored no points in Saturday’s sprint and is classified eighth in the main race, more than eight seconds behind. (SDA)
