The Swiss team around Skip Silvana Tirinzoni is on a roll.

The Swiss curlers around Skip Silvana Tirinzoni also win their last two round robin matches at the World Championships in Sandviken, Sweden.

They defeated the Olympic champions from Scotland 7:6 and South Korea 5:3. Briar Schwaller, Carole Howald, Silvana Tirinzoni and Alina Pätz do not yet know who they will face in the semifinals from Saturday afternoon to Saturday afternoon. They meet the winner of the two quarter-finals, who is ranked worse after the round robin. So there are four different teams as opponents in question.

Even before the knockout matches that follow, the three-time world champions from CC Aarau have achieved something extraordinary. As of March 2022, they have now won 34 World Cup games in a row. No other team – not even the men’s – has come close to such a streak in World Championship history.

The Scots, narrowly beaten by the Swiss, have lost a lot after the retirement of world champion Eve Muirhead a year ago. Rebecca Morrison, now in fourth place, remains well below Muirhead’s level. (SDA)
