Stefan Müller, single judge for disciplinary cases in competitive sports, fined Grégory Hofmann CHF 2,000 (fine CHF 1,760, CHF 240 for court costs).
Last Friday, in the second game of the playoff quarterfinal series, Lakers forward Yannick-Lennart Albrecht hit EVZ striker Hofmann’s stick with one hand, who then dropped his still usable work equipment. Albrecht received a two-minute penalty for hitting the stick, Hofmann for faking a foul.
“Unnatural Reaction”
Müller explains in his verdict: “Defendant feels the blow, stops playing and drops his stick (without further contact) with delay and completely unnecessarily. This conduct constitutes a “diving/beautification” violation under Rule 64.1. IIHF, which is an excessive and unnatural reaction to an opponent’s action, whether that action was legal or illegal. Such behavior is unsportsmanlike and highly frowned upon in ice hockey.”
Zug won the match on Friday 4:3. On Sunday, the Lakers were able to reduce to 2-1 at home in the best-of-7 series. Game 4 will take place at the Bossard Arena on Wednesday. (yup)
