“I carry my father in my heart”

Priska Nufer often thinks of her father Peter. He passed away last April. Now she’s talking about it for the first time.

Priska nufer (31) returns to the place of her greatest success: Cran Montana. On the high plateau of Valais, where the 2027 World Cup will take placefetched a year ago she sensationally won the downhill. The Obwaldner from Alpnach fulfilled a childhood dream, she cried with happiness after her first World Cup victory. “I worked hard for years to get this done. When the time came I was just happy.”

What many did not know and still do not know to this day is that that day was also special in other ways. Than: nufers Father Peter was bad then.

nufer suffered from it but chose not to talk about it publicly because it was distressing enough as it is. “He lived in his own world because of his illness and often had bad days. It wasn’t always easy, I had a very close relationship with him, the passion for skiing connected us very much.” Admittedly, Peter could do it nufer, who had always encouraged his children, did not see his daughter’s big day there. “But when I visited him after my return from Valais, he was shining like he had rarely seen in the last months of his life. That touched me very much and was one of the most beautiful moments of my life. »

Peter passed away in early April 2022 nufer after a long illness. “It hurts, but on the one hand I’m glad he’s free from his illness. I used to worry a lot when I was away for training camp or a race and he was feeling unwell. I wanted to be there for him. the other side I knew: It was always his biggest wishthat I’m on the track”, so nufer. It is touching that her father was able to witness her triumph – albeit from afar nufer still today. “He worked towards that together with our children. It’s great that it worked out and that he got to experience it.”

“Many Good Memories”

The first season without her father passed nufer not nearly as desired. But with a 6th place in Cortina, she qualified for the World Cup and beat Michelle in training there gisin (29) took last place in the descent and with a high and unfavorable start number achieved a respectable 11th place. “I did everything I could. It’s a shame it got so hot on the day of the race.”

After the peak of the season thinks nufer not a second to take it easy. On the contrary. On their return to Cran Montana, this very special place, she wants to show her best side again. “I have so many fond memories from last year and really enjoy skiing Monday Lachaux.” Her family and many friends also return. “And I carry my father in my heart”, like that nufer.
