Without the personal courage of Vladimir Selensky (45), everything would have been different. If the president had fled after the Russian attack, Ukraine would not have had the strength to resist, the power in Kiev would have collapsed, Russia ruled there… He would have been, he would have been, he would have been: Despite the greatest danger to his own life, Zelensky remained in Kiev. To this day, he is the guarantor of the incredible will to survive and the high morale of all Ukrainians.
Since the aggressor Putin completely underestimated the power of courage, this unequal war has been deadlocked for several months now.
US President Joe Biden (80) also showed courage with his unexpected visit to Kyiv, but above all with his unconditional Selensky guarantee: “As long as it is necessary to fight, we will be at your side.”
Last but not least, Europe is showing courage. The Old World is united as never before in its history. Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin (37) is particularly courageous. Your country was neutral before the war, it has a 1,300-kilometer border with Russia, and yet it inspires Western determination more than almost any other nation.
The courage of Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni (46) seems even more amazing – and all the more valuable: she undauntedly supports Ukraine, although right-wing extremists of her own party and her ruling coalition shower her with malice, above all Putin’s friend Silvio Berlusconi (86).
There is hardly a Western country that does not send weapons, ammunition, tanks and anti-aircraft systems so that Ukraine can defend itself.
What is Switzerland doing? Unfortunately, there is no other way to say it: this is a tragedy.
Under the guise of neutrality, Bern even forbids friendly states to transfer to Ukraine ammunition produced many years ago in Switzerland.
The state government prefers to praise itself for its generous humanitarian aid. However, as an assessment of the Institute for World Economics in Kiel, Germany, now shows, the Confederation, measured in terms of its economic strength, helps much less than others.
The Federal Council also boasts that 7.5 billion francs of the money of the oligarchs is blocked in this country – according to the association of bankers, another 150 to 200 billion remain completely untouched …
And all this despite the fact that the Russian attack is also an attack on Switzerland:
- Russia is destroying the European concept of security, thanks to which we could still live in peace and prosperity.
- Russia is threatening with nuclear weapons, the use of which would have the most dire consequences for Switzerland.
- The Russian attack also extends to more than 100 Swiss companies based in Ukraine.
Russia threatens our security, our prosperity, our health. A neutral state would also have to react to this. Or, to put it in the spirit of the traditionalists: Wilhelm Tell also shot Gessler.
There are brave men in this war who will eventually stop Putin. And there are doubters who help the Russian aggressor by staying on the sidelines.
