Zogg and Jenny get a double win

Julie Zogg rides to the second gold medal of her career in the Swiss final.

What a performance by the Swiss in Georgia! Julie Zogg (30) and Ladina Jenny (29) contest an all-Swiss World Championship final in parallel slalom. In this, Zogg is crowned world champion. The podium is completed by the Austrian Sabine Schöffman.

The two Swiss women demand everything from each other in the final. Silver medalist Jenny also sometimes leads, but in the end favorite Zogg has more pace and secures gold with a lead of 0.26 seconds.

After winning the title in Park City in 2019, the 30-year-old is celebrating her second world title in parallel slalom. For Jenny, second place is the biggest success of her career. She previously celebrated a bronze medal in the parallel giant slalom, also at the 2019 World Championships.

Zogg: from rescue sled to gold medal

The world champion is emotional after her success – no wonder, because she was thrown off the track during the parallel giant slalom on Sunday. “I was in the rescue sled on Sunday and thought it would be impossible to drive today,” the St. Gallen resident can hardly believe her success in an interview with SRF. “The whole team has been so helpful. This success would not have been possible without her and my family.”

Her feelings are further softened by Jenny’s silver. “It is so nice that – after it was difficult for both of us in the GS (parallel giant slalom, ed.) – we can stand on the podium together.” Jenny shares the joy despite a brief disappointment at missing gold. “Since the regional races, we always ride together and we travel together!” And now they are going to enjoy a double victory at the World Cup together.

No medal for the men

It’s a disappointment for Patrizia Kummer. After a good qualification in the morning (3rd place), she already falls in the eighth finals.

There is no reason to celebrate this Tuesday for the men either. Dario Caviezel – silver winner on Sunday – drops out after a wrong ride in the quarter finals. Colleague Gian Casanova gets stuck in the eighth finals. Austrian veteran Andreas Prommegger secures the world title ahead of his compatriot Arvid Auner and Canadian Arnaud Gaudet. (dti)
