Mourning in the world of American football: ex-NFL star Vontae Davis (†35) is dead, the American media unanimously reported on Easter Monday. Davis’ lifeless body was discovered on his grandmother’s property in Florida. The exact cause of death is currently under police investigation, but outside influence is not believed to have been involved.
Davis played a total of ten seasons in the NFL. His stops included Miami Dolphins (2009-11), Indianapolis Colts (2012-17) and Buffalo Bills (2018). He went through the most successful phase of his career with the Colts; the cornerback was named to the Pro Bowl in both 2014 and 2015.
Crazy career ending
Davis is best remembered for his unconventional end to his career. Just a few weeks after joining the Bills, he simply did not return to the field after halftime in the game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He quickly announced his retirement from the NFL stage. «Today I realized it on the pitch, fast and hard. “I shouldn’t be there anymore,” he said, explaining his strange decision at the time. (sbe)
