Fear of serious injury Egurrola after collision at Juventus – Lyon

Defending champions Olympique Lyonnais have lost to Juventus in Group C of the Women’s Champions League.

With three Orange internationals at the start, Damaris Egurrola and Daniëlle van de Donk for Lyon and Lineth Beerensteyn for the Italians, it was 1-1 in the moderately crowded Allianz Stadium in Turin.

A major eyesore in Lyon’s second group game was the absence of Egurrola with what appears to be a serious knee injury. It is not yet clear whether the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which begins in nine months, is at stake.

Both Lyon keeper Tiane Endler and team-mate Egurrola went for the ball with a free-kick, after which Endler landed on the 23-year-old Orange international. The Olympique Lyon players made it clear with gestures that it wasn’t right. Juventus players also seemed quite scared.

While Egurrola walked off the field in tears and with a wrapped knee, several players, including club and country team-mate Van den Donk, also appeared to be recovering from the emotions.

Before the shock, Lindsey Horan had made the French 1-0. The USA international picked up a long ball well and passed Juventus keeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin, who then slotted the ball into an empty goal.

The 1-1 also came from a French leg, Melvine Malard touched a cross and outwitted her own keeper. After this own goal, no more goals were scored in Turin.

Miedema on the striker, Bayern on his German

In the other group game, Arsenal had an easy evening against FC Zurich. With the all-time top scorer of the Netherlands national team Vivianne Miedema in the lead, the Londoners won 3-1.

Miedema had no part in the goals scored by Jordan Nobbs and Lina Hurtig (2x). The goal was scored by Seraina Piubel.

In Group D, FC Barcelona narrowly won in Sweden, at FC Rosengard coached by Renée Slegers: 1:4. Mariona Caldentey and Bonmati scored twice for the Catalans, with Olivia Holdt scoring the Swedish goal.

The other game in the group, between Benfica and Bayern Munich, had a spectacular result. The Portuguese led 2-0 through goals from Nycole Raysla and Cloe Lacasse. Goals from Maximiliane Rall and Georgia Stanway equalized again.

That seemed to remain the case until Stanway, who became European champions with England last summer, scored in the last second from outside the box. For example, the Germans won in Lisbon in the 98th minute: 2:3.
